The Presbytery of East Tennessee

The Presbyterian Center at UT - Knoxville - Who We Are

The Presbyterian Center is a mission of the Presbytery of East Tennessee and the Presbyterian Church (USA) although students from many backgrounds are involved. At the Presbyterian Center UTK we seek to be a ministry to the campus that welcomes all students and provides a "home away from home." We encourage students to stay connected to the larger Church while providing a kind of on campus "church" at which college students feel comfortable and can worship and serve. We are a place where students can feel free to kick back, take off their shoes, and be who God has made them to be. Whether you grew up in the church or you are investigating the claims of Jesus for the first time, the Presbyterian Center is a place where you can ask the tough questions, learn, share, experience, and grow within a community. The PC is a place where everyone belongs and students know they are loved by God and others.

Our hope is to see students grow in the knowledge of God's love, experience God's call in their lives, and learn to share God's love with the world around them.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Presbyterian Center is to actively display God's abundant love to the UTK campus and the greater community. It is our mission to offer a safe, open, and developing environment to further our growth in faith and our growing relationship with God, so that we all share in the Good News of Jesus Christ.

The House

The Presbyterian Center is an historic house located just next to Presidential Courtyard. Our doors are open from 8am until 11pm each weekday for students to come by and hang out. We have lots of comfortable couches and places to just kick back, study, talk with your friends, watch TV, or even sleep. An ordained Presbyterian minister is available for counseling, hanging out, coffee, or even a free meal. Plus we also have free fair trade coffee available every morning!

Presbyterian Campus Ministry at UT – Chattanooga - Who We Are

Mission Statement

To bring college aged people in the Chattanooga area to a deeper knowledge and love of Jesus Christ, and to equip people for ministry.

" I have come that they might have life, and have it more abundantly" Jesus, in John 10:10

We believe that life is something to be cherished. It is a gift from God. It promises to be abundant when lived in the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ. We live in a world that is constantly changing, and that promises that what is new is always better than what is old. Yet we are bold to argue that God came to this earth over 2000 years ago - Jesus Christ of Nazareth. And he is relevant today. His words, his teachings, his acts of kindness, his death on the cross, and his being raised from the dead - these are "things of old" that are truth for today.

Our mission is specific. We are a ministry to those of "college age": whether you are in college, in the work-place, or "in-between." The university life, the working world, and the "in-between"places bring unique challenges and questions to those that are searching for meaning. Who are we? What is our identity? Where can I find life? Where can I find truth? Whether you are someone who has grown up in the church, or someone who is investigating the claims of Jesus for the first time, The House is a place to learn, ask questions, experience, and challenge yourself in the context of a community.

Our desire is also to see people discover their passion and their gifts for serving others, and experience the joy of using those gifts in the surrounding community, and the world.
